Hello! I’m Nesa Farid, an Iranian artist now calling the Netherlands home. My creative journey is a blend of two worlds: the deep, ancient roots of Eastern calligraphy and the fluid, expressive energy of modern abstract painting.

My path has never been a straight line; it has been an evolution of form, precision, and storytelling.

My Story: From Structure to Script

My foundation began in Architecture, where I first learned the language of space, proportion, and structure. However, my spirit craved a more tactile connection to art. This led me to a self-taught exploration of painting and the launch of my own handicraft business, where I translated my architectural eye into handmade art.

Seeking a more intimate canvas, I transitioned into the world of Tattoo Artistry. After completing two professional certifications, I spent two years dedicated to the precision of skin art. It was during this time, while seeking to bring deeper meaning to my clients’ skin through calligraphy, that I fell in love with the script itself. What began as a tool for tattooing soon became my primary passion. By 2022, I shifted my focus entirely to the art of the pen, becoming a Calligraphy Instructor to share this meditative craft with others.

Inspiration & Migration

In 2024, I migrated to the Netherlands, a move that added a new layer to my identity. For me, art is a bridge. My work explores the beautiful complexity of living between cultures, themes of displacement, memory, and identity. I use the rhythm of Persian script to tell stories that words alone sometimes can’t capture.

The Materiality of My Work

Before I focused on the canvas, my hands were in clay. My background in pottery still lives in my paintings today; I love playing with texture and depth, often incorporating:

• Gold and metal leaf for a touch of timelessness.
• Velvet powder and acrylics to create layers you can almost feel.
• Non-rusting steel symbolizes the enduring nature of our memories.

Beyond the Canvas

When I’m not painting in my studio, I am teaching. Since 2023, I have found immense joy in guiding students through the meditative beauty of Persian calligraphy. I believe that art is not just a final product, but a process of finding one’s own voice within the silence of the page.
